Thomas Woodcrafts is now closed
As announced in September, I have now closed the shop (more or less). I have some stock remaining from the fall craft show season and some parts left for stools and balance boards. All of those items are available here and through my Etsy Shop.
I will be closing this website at the end of January 2019 and redirecting all traffic to my Etsy store which will remain open until I have cleared out the remaining inventory. I will not be making any new, custom or made-to-order products.
Thank you for all your support
The past four years have been an amazing adventure. What started out as a small venture to bring in some additional revenue for my family and a creative outlet for me, has turned into a viable small part-time business. Unfortunately it is occupying too much of my time now as a result of all the growth.
I have learned a lot about setting up and running a small home-based business, marketing, craft shows and the importance of producing a quality product that meets the needs of customers. Thomas Woodcrafts has also given me the opportunity to rebuild and build my woodworking skills which had been largely unused for close to 20 years.
Most especially I learned about the power of word of mouth. So many of you shared photos of the products that you purchased from Thomas Woodcrafts with your friends and social networks. In 2018 I decided not to do any paid marketing in an effort to slow the demand and growth so I wouldn’t be as busy as 2017. Thanks to word of mouth my sales this past year were almost the same as the year before. That wouldn’t have been possible without all of you.
Is this the end?
For the foreseeable future – yes.
I am closing the doors on the business for now, but it will return at some point in the future with different products. For now I am going to spend more time with my kids and parter. I will continue woodworking as a creative hobby as opposed to doing it as a business.
Someday in the future when I have a larger dedicated shop (instead of sharing space with the laundry room) where I can have equipment that enables me to be more efficient Thomas Woodcrafts will return.
For now I will say farewell and thank you so much for all your support over the past fours years.
